Pet Dog Goggles And Sunscreen For Year-Round Pet Protection

There are many Dogs whose eyes are particularly sensitive to sunlight. To comfort themselves against the bright light, your Dog may squint, whine, or even paw at its face. Some people consider sunglasses for canines a cute fashion statement but they are much more than that. A pair of pet Dog goggles to block out UV light may help your canine feel more comfortable outdoors.

Humans are prone to eye diseases like macular degeneration, cataracts and photokeratitis, and so are Dogs. In addition, certain breeds can suffer from a condition called "pannus," which is also known as chronic superficial keratitis or inflammation of the corneas. It is primarily found in the German Shepard breed, although other predisposed breeds include Greyhounds, Huskies and Dachshunds. Other breeds reported to have problems with pannus include Poodles, Border Collies and Labrador Retrievers.

Pannus can be caused by prolonged and repeated exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays, which hit the eyes of both human and animal whether the sun is shining high in the sky or whether the day is cloudy. Ultraviolet light, high altitudes and low altitudes create the greatest risks.

It is not just ultraviolet radiation that can damage our four-legged friends' vision. Does your dog ride with its head out the car window, spend time on the bright beach or in reflective bright snow, or maybe run through brush? Pet dog goggles that function as sunglasses for dogs can also help protect them from airborne debris and wind.

New and improved dog goggle eye protection for your pet is available, the same eyewear that has been seen on CNN, Regis and Kelly, National Geographic, Animal Planet, and in People and Woman's World magazines. After eight years of designing and manufacturing eyewear for dogs, pet dog goggles have come a long way in quality and function. Redesigned dog goggles have an interchangeable lens system that offers a deeper lens cup, very flexible frames, and wider nose bridge. The ILS was designed from the beginning to be lighter and more comfortable for dogs.

Pet goggles for dogs offer 100% UV protection, and shatterproof, anti-fog lenses facilitated by side air vents; a very flexible, wrap around foam padded frame; interchangeable capable lenses; two adjustable soft elastic head and chin straps; for complete and beneficial dog goggle eye protection for your pet.

Sunscreen for your dogs!

And, yes, many dogs can benefit from sunscreen. Why put human sunscreen on your dog when you can use a formula designed specifically for a dog's skin? Does your dog have light colored skin or a pink nose? Your dog needs sunscreen! Dogs have more sensitive skin than humans and thus do better with their own sunscreen. Sunscreen for pets also helps with coat condition and to prevent sun bleaching in dark haired dogs.

Havanese Breeder - Is Yours For Real?

Havanese puppies are among the most desirable of all toy breed Dogs. These small, playful pups are considered to be some of the most affectionate and loyal Dogs on the planet; and are highly sought after by competitors around the country. These has led to an uprising of dishonest Havanese breeders who want to capitalize on this desire, and produce as many pups as possible to meet the growing demand, without any thought to the condition in which the dogs are raised.

There are many ways in which you can learn to spot a fake Havanese breeder, otherwise known as a puppy broker. There is no sign on their shirts that tells you what they are, but rather you should do as much research as you possibly can about any breeder you are considering buying a pup from. This is really the only way to ascertain whether you are getting your new dog from an honest Havanese breeder.

The best way to know whether you are dealing with an honest Havanese dealer is to thoroughly research any and all documentation you are given both at the time of the sale, and prior to the final delivery. This includes checking the online databases to ensure that your dog is actually registered where the breeder says they are. Unfortunately, registration papers are relatively simple to forge, and many would-be Havanese owners are duped every day. Fortunately for them, respected registration organizations have online databases available where you can research the registration of your pup's parents, to make certain that you are getting your dog from an honest breeder.

Also, it is not uncommon for a dishonest Havanese breeder to forge medical documentation. Since there are a great many medical tests that need to be done on a Havanese pup when they are born to ensure they do not carry any of the common genetic health concerns that plague so many pups, it is important that you make a point to call the veterinarian (and research them, as well) listed on the paperwork to make certain that your pup has actually had the testing done.
Also, it is important that you ask a potential

Havanese breeder that you are considering how often they breed the female dogs in their care. If they tell you that they breed them every season, it is a good possibility that you are dealing with a fake Havanese breeder. Also, if the Havanese breeder in question tries to pressure you into a quick sale, you should be extremely wary, and run the opposite direction as quickly as possible.

As you can see there are many ways that you can make certain to avoid a dishonest Havanese breeder. The most important thing to remember is that only you can do the necessary research to ensure that your pup is exactly what you want. Havanese puppies are a wonderful addition to any home, and are well worth the wait necessary to ensure that you are getting your pup from an honest Havanese breeder.

Choosing a Small Dog Breed May Make Life Easier for You

Puppies have often been sought after for their companionship & entertainment.

When choosing a puppy, it is important to remember that they will grow up one day, and could grow substantially larger! For those who like puppies to stay small and manageable, there are specialist breeds whereby the puppy does not grow much in size.

You can look for these breed names on the internet, or in good books about Dogs. You may want to also look out for breeders who specialise in these type of Dogs.

Four types that are popular with families and celebrities are:

Lhasa Apso Puppies. The Lhasa Apso is a long-lived breed, with some living a reasonable age, keeping good health into their early 20s. They generally have few health problems specific to the breed.

Cocker spaniel puppies. The Cocker Spaniel is excellent with other animals and good with children making it a popular family pet or companion Dog as it simply loves the company of people.

Shih Tzu puppies. The Shih Tzu stands no more than 27 cm (10 1/2 in.) at the withers and with an preferred weight of 4.5 to 7.4 kg (10 to 16 lbs).

Pug Puppies. Pug puppies are often called puglets. This breed has a fine, glossy coat that comes in a variety of colors. They have a compact square body with well-developed muscle. They can be strong willed but not often aggressive. The pug is an ideal pet for families with children.

We considering your choice consider training. It is everyones intention to have the dog obey basic commands. But some learn faster than others. A fast learning breed is likely to be easier to train & pick up commends faster. Whereas a slow learning breed would require added patience.

If you are looking to have an obedient dog, but have limited time for training, why not look at an easy to train breed like a poodle, Shetland sheep dog, or Papillon.

These specialist breeds have become very popular with celebrities. Jessica Karen Szohr, actress & model is thought to have a Lhasa Apso. Geri Halliwell, singer in the Spice Girls band and now actress owns a famous Shih Tzu named Harry. Kelly Osborne owns a pug puppy, and past fans were Queen Victoria & Winston Churchill.

So best of luck in your search, but remember, puppy is just for Christmas, but for life!

3 Popular Dog Breeds For 2009

We've seen an ever growing trend of smaller Dogs that have become so popular mainly because of urban living spaces and dare I say Paris Hilton? There are 3 semi-new breeds that have been taking the world by storm and I'd like to introduce you to them all.

The Dorkie: This relatively new breed has been in high demand mainly on the west coat of North America, and although it's not a purebred, it is still one of the cutest Dogs to become popular in 2008/2009. These gentle and lovable little Dogs are a cross breed of Dachshund's and Yorshire Terrier's which gives them the long slender bodies. Since the Dorkie was bred by crossing from a hypoallergenic breed, you won't have to worry much about sneezing and coughing all day long around these Dogs.

Mini Bulldog: Some people say that bigger dogs shouldn't be designed to go smaller even though that hasn't stopped breeders from making a Bulldog pint sized. The mini Bulldog, or sometimes referred to as the Bull-Pug, is a cross between an English Bulldog and a Pug. Now you can only imagine how cute that sounds, but also wonder what kind of health problems they have? Fortunately the cross has worked out great and these dogs are very healthy and lovable, and you'll be seeing a lot of them in 2009!

Puggles: It seems that his may be the year for Pug crosses, and why not? Pug's are some of the most characteristic and friendly dogs on the planet. Puggles are crossbreeds between male Pugs and female Beagle's which result in a dog that gets anywhere from 15-25 pounds in size. Puggle's are relatively low maintenance animals and are a perfect family dog, especially if you have children. The trend has really caught on out in Vancouver BC Canada where small dogs are very popular due to the condo living lifestyle.

We're starting to see a lot of interesting dog mixes these days and who knows what's in store for next year. The trend of going smaller isn't slowing down at all, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a mini Saint Bernard in the near future!

World Record For the Tallest Dog Breed - A Must Read

Dogs vary not just in breeds, but also in colors and sizes. They are also believed to have different personalities just as men do but never could you associate these personalities to their sizes. There are small breeds that are just so fierce while there are also large or tall breeds that are too gentle and lovable. One good example of this lovable breed is the Irish Wolfhound. They are so tall and big that they are known to snag the world record for the tallest Dog breed. This breed has also been known as the gentle giant of the Dogs.

At birth, the puppies weigh 700g or 1.5 lbs. This breed grows fast, however, thus resulting to long-legged male wolfhounds which weigh over 55 kg or 230 lb and females weighing 48 kg or 150 lbs. Male and female wolfhounds also vary in height. The males on average are 86 cm or almost 3 ft. tall at shoulder while the female Wolfhounds are as tall as 2-5 cm or 1 to 2 inches shorter than male ones. These Dogs can also measure up to 2 m or 6.6 from the snout's tip down to the tail. With their giant-like body structure, they could really scare anyone off at first glance but once you had seen how gentle and affectionate they are, you would fall in love with this kind of dog and you might even want to take them home as pets. You would also soon find out that this breed is the silent but powerful type once provoked.

As the name suggests, the Irish Wolfhound breed is said to be originally created to hunt wolf and other wild animals such as deer and boars in Ireland. More than a hundred years ago, wolves walked the grounds of Ireland but thanks to this breed, wolves cannot be found in the country anymore. In the historical perspective, these dogs are also said to be bred in Ireland in 500 BC and were employed for hunting, livestock guarding and even in wars. From Ireland, they were also traveled to Rome for the famous animal games. They were also an important part of the English occupation in Ireland; they were trained by the Irish knights to fight with them during battles. During the 19th century, the breed was close to extinction but because of its savior's selective breeding program in 1862, the danger of extinction ceased. This savior was known by the name George Graham.

For any dog lovers who would like to have this breed, wolfhounds come in different colors like gray, red, black, pure white brown and brindle. They must also expect this kind of dog to have a shorter lifespan of 5 to 9 years compared to other large dogs which usually live for about 12 years. Their short lifespan is usually caused by genetic heart, bone and stomach issues.

Irish Wolfhound breed is really known for bagging the world record for the tallest dog breed. But once you get to know them well, you'll realize that it's not just their sizes that make them unique but also their affectionate personality.

The Benefits Of Dog Ownership

It is believed that man and Dog forged a partnership back in the cave man era. When supposedly a Dog followed 'man' on a hunting expedition and later sat close by eating the bones tossed aside by the hunter.

In today's modern home 'man's best friend' is still with us, providing unconditional love in return for his basic needs, food, warmth, shelter and affection. But underneath the simple partnership lies the true benefits of sharing your home and life with an animal.

Owning a Dog can be one of the most rewarding tasks you have ever undertaken. From the moment you hold that tiny bundle of fluff in your arms, you know that your life will never be the same again.

One of the chief advantages of living with your faithful friend is companionship. Your dog will always be there for you. Ever loyal, no matter what your mood, if you are happy tails will wag and they will want to share your joy. On your bad days, they sense this and a head will snuggle into your lap. Two large eyes will look into yours as you stroke his head, your anger or depression will ease your heart rate decrease.

Security for your home is unrivaled burglars can be deterred slightly by alarm boxes. However the teeth, growl and bark of an unknown canine assailant will make the average intruder think twice before jumping your fence or smashing your window. There are insurance companies who will give you a reduction for having a dog in your house.

The health benefits to you cannot be ignored a happy contented dog must be walked daily. The fresh air and the exercise will improve your circulation. Relieve stress by calmly walking through the countryside watching nature at work, an abundance of wild animals and flowers will delight you, see the birds as they soar through the sky. Save money, cancel your gym membership and jog around the park every morning instead. Whether young or not so young, daily exercise is important to your well being.

Having a dog by your side enables you to meet a lot of other people and dog walkers are very friendly. Make new friends, meet up for walks chatting as you go along. For anybody who does not in the course of their day mix with others, your daily outings could revitalize your social life.

You may decide to enter your dog into one of the numerous dog shows held regularly around the country. Not all shows cater for top class pedigree dogs, these days any dog can enter into the 'Scruffs' events. If your pooch wins a rosette, many owners are often happier than the animal.

If energy is no problem try obedience training and take that onto the next level. Fast, energetic and highly addictive as competitors run round a dog size horse show jumping arena, racing against the clock with a lot of skill involved.

At the end of the day your family pet, no matter which way you decide to lead his life, will always look up to you as his Master and will always be there for you. The most supportive faithful friend you could ever want to ask for.

80th Birthday Party Dos and Don'ts For a Great Milestone Celebration

Are you planning an 80th birthday party for someone special? If so, you're probably looking for ideas to commemorate this happy occasion in a big way. Here are some helpful tips with the top dos and don'ts for celebrating this important milestone.

DON'T make it a surprise party. One of the best places to get ideas for an 80th birthday party is from the guest of honor, himself. Let him or her participate in planning this event. Of course, you don't want the celebrant to do any of the work. But leave the important details of the festivities up to the birthday man or woman.

Find out what type of celebration he or she would like to have: formal or casual, large or small. Ask for his or her help deciding on the menu, entertainment and date for the big bash. And most important of all, let him or her make up the guest list. After all, he or she is the only one who knows which people must be there to make this occasion especially meaningful.

DO involve your guests. Give the people who are invited to the celebration a chance to contribute to honoring the birthday man or woman. Ask everyone to email you favorite memories of the guest of honor. Write each one down on a small piece of colored paper, place them in a glass jar. Then, at the party, give the memory jar as a group gift to the celebrant. You could also ask your guests to donate pictures to a scrapbook you are putting together for this special man or woman.

DON'T schedule the party to run too late at night. You may be planning an 80th birthday party for a night owl who has more energy than the average teenager. But chances are, most of his or her friends won't be quite as lively or vigorous. Instead, plan an earlier celebration, so that everyone will be at their best.

DO use plenty of photos. An 80th birthday celebration is the perfect time to highlight all those years of memories with pictures. You might start with photo invitations showcasing then and now snapshots. Another idea is to go with personalized photo birthday favors, which are available in a variety of inexpensive items, such as magnets, bookmarks, chocolate bars, notebooks, pocket mirrors and key chains, to name just a few.

For decorations at the party, enlarge some prints to poster size or combine multiple pictures into a big collage. You can make simple, yet elegant centerpieces by just grouping together several small framed photographs. Put together a slideshow or powerpoint presentation of snapshots from the man or woman's life.

DON'T forget his or her personality. What does this special 80 year old love? What makes him or her unique? Try to build that into the celebration. Is he still an avid golfer? You could have a whole golf-theme party. Is the celebrant a real cat or Dog lover? Perhaps you can find a little ceramic figurine of their favorite breed to put on the cake. Whether they are into gardening, old movies, computer games, mystery novels, scrapbooking, fishing or anything else, try to find a way to incorporate that into the festivities. It's a great way to show that birthday man or woman that you appreciate the things that make them such an amazing individual.

DO include nostalgia. Play CDs of music he or she loved in their youth. Research and create a big poster listing events that happened the year this person was born. You can also find personalized party favors that include this information. Make up a trivia test for your guests, using little known facts or events from the birthday man or woman's life. Everyone will enjoy trying to come up with the answers. You could even have a small prize for the person who gets the most right.

So, if you're looking for guidelines for creating a memorable 80th birthday party, just remember these tips. Then use your imagination, and you'll be sure to give this very special person a wonderful milestone celebration.

Dog Hair Care - Dog Grooming Tips

The Dog is one of the most loved animals on the planet. Children adore them and so do the adults. Families consider their Dog as a member of the family and they take good care of it. One of the most important parts in caring for a Dog is the grooming. The grooming process will enhance the dog beauty and will keep it healthy, away from diseases. Depending on the breed, the dog hair can have a lot of textures, length and color and the caring can be different.

You should know that hair loss has many reasons. The vet can determine those causes. Some of them can be: stress, disease, excessive scratching, the changing of the season. Some endocrine gland diseases can also cause hair loss.

According to the breed you can determine the number of times you have to wash the dog and groom it. Depending on the breed you will also choose the dog shampoo you will use. If the dog you have spends a great deal of time outdoors, you should use some anti flea shampoo. Also, you can talk to the doctor and get him to recommend you a shampoo that is great at reducing some allergic reactions. Also, you can use mineral oil and get the dog a hair massage. Use cotton balls to clean the area around the eyes. You can also use a sponge or even a towel.

When the flees bite the dog, a very small saliva quantity is injected in the dog skin, preventing the blood from coagulation. This is why some dogs can become really sensitive to the saliva. This can sometimes develop into flea allergy dermatitis.

After you bathe the dog you need to put tick powder on the coat and then brush the coat again. Breeds like Labrador and German Shepherds need special attention.

The Wide Range of Magazines Available

The glossy covers and outrageous titles draw our eyes as we check out at the supermarket. Articles tell us how to lose weight, simplify our lives, and keep us current on important and unimportant regional and world news. This phenomenon is not exclusive to the United States, in fact, the world boasts over 200,000 different magazines, with an enormous diversity in readers and topics of interest. While we see the repeated themes that editors have determined lure readers, some topics are downright strange.

I know peanut allergies have risen dramatically over the last decade, but have you picked up a magazine recently to read about squid sensitivities? A travel magazine can show you where you can sleep in a beagle shaped bedroom. Fitness magazines tout that exercise can help you lose weight, but can make you gain weight as well. Alien sightings have long been popular magazine and tabloid topics, and have now progressed to underwater aliens. There is the newly discovered vegetarian spider. Magazine articles note the hot new trend in furniture made from live shrubbery. Have you read that Dogs and babies are some of the newest teaching tools in today's classrooms? These are just a few of the topics you may not have expected to find in current magazines.

The magazines that ruminate on these topics are as varied as the topics themselves. Marking the aging population of Americans has the surprising largest circulation in the United States. Magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and Cosmopolitan are top US sellers while some of our national favorites have been also been wildly successful abroad. Readers Digest is the most popular magazine in the world, and is being printed in 19 languages with over 25 million subscribers. National Geographic is constantly broadening its reader base, recently launching National Geographic Kids in Indonesia, for a total of 18 international editions.

While there are magazines that target international markets with universal issues, regional and special interest magazines also abound. The most popular magazine in Asia is a regional small business publication called SME Entrepreneurship Magazine. I won't venture to guess what local is targeted with some of the more unusual publications, like Varmint Hunter Magazine, or Miniature Donkey Talk. No topic is off limit, with magazines such as Girls and Corpses, a disturbing juxtaposition of young women and skeletal remains, and Modern Drunkard, for "functional alcoholics" who the rest of us might term populations in denial.

The prices of these magazines are as varied as the subjects covered, from free publications to the world's most expensive magazine, Nomenus Quarterly. Limited edition might be an understatement for this folio of previously unpublished images, with a whopping circulation of 10, at a record-breaking subscription price of $6,500.

So, if you are looking for a magazine subscription on a particular topic, no matter how bizarre, you may just be able to find it! You may be able to read about it in over a dozen languages. If you don't speak a foreign language, just pick up Mome (French), Kinder (German), or Chicos (Spanish) that are published especially to teach you. An amazing variety of magazines and articles worldwide are waiting to be discovered.

The Dinosaur Extinction, Probable Causes

It is generally believed that 65 million years ago the dinosaurs became extinct when a massive comet or asteroid collided with the earth, thus putting an end to one of the most successful orders of life that ever existed on planet Earth.

Scientific research shows that many and varied species of dinosaurs had lived and died beginning about 230 million years ago, during the geologic period of earth's history known as the Triassic, and continuing on throughout the following Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, a time-span of about 165 million years.

Dinosaurs were the dominant land animals of their time, populating many regions of the earth, providing today, a worldwide source of their fossil remains. It is acknowledged that although the dinosaurs are extinct, there is a close anatomical relationship between birds and dinosaurs, which supports the opinion of many paleontologists that birds may have evolved from dinosaurs, perhaps from the small dinosaurs of the late Jurassic. Possible evidence of this includes the three-toed feet and the air filled bones and the wishbones found in the many thousands of today's bird species.

The dinosaurs appeared, evolved, and eventually disappeared millions of years before human beings appeared on earth. Huge fossilized dinosaur bones have been discovered and excavated, providing dramatic displays, when reassembled, for museums. And dinosaurs are frequently depicted as being massive in size, bigger that elephants and often as ferocious meat eaters, such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex may have been. But in reality they were an extremely varied group of creatures with species of many sizes some as small as the common Dogs kept as pets today.

The cause of their extinction has long been a mystery and the subject of conjecture and debate, with the two main currently popular theories centered around some form of catastrophe to account for their apparently rather sudden disappearance, sudden in geological terms perhaps but not actually in an instant. In fact it is possible that long before the time-line of 65 million years ago there had already been a gradual and significant dying out of many dinosaur species and the final catastrophic event could merely have delivered the final blow.

The catastrophes, were they earthly or from outer space?

Was it the impact of a solar system body from outer space or extensive volcanic outpourings on earth over millions of years that caused the demise of the dinosaurs? Actually, we have evidence of both occurring in that time period but as yet there is not a consensus among the scientific community that confirms one or the other, or both, as the cause of the extinction, although currently, most support appears to be on the side of the impact theory.

One likely catastrophic event may have been the impact of a large asteroid or comet from outer space, where many such objects constantly revolve in the solar system and occasionally enter a collision path with the earth or other planets. And supporters of this argument have found the evidence and extent of such an extra-terrestrial body in the impact crater, known as the Chicxulub Crater in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

But long before the impact crater was searched for and finally found, Walter Alvarez, an American geologist, working in Gubbio, Italy, identified an unexpected mineral in the rocks there, called iridium. Iridium, when found in the earth's surface rocks, usually occurs as only a minute percentage of the total material in situ but in the case of the Gubbio iridium, where it existed between the boundary layers of the underlying Cretaceous and overlying Tertiary rocks, it was in much greater percentages than normal. The 65 million year old boundary layer marks the close of the age of the dinosaurs - and of a multitude of extinctions of other land and sea creatures, a time often referred to as "the Great Dying".

It was known that concentrations of iridium similar to those occurring at Gubbio were common in meteorites arriving on earth from outer space. Based on this, Walter Alvarez, together with his colleagues and including his distinguished Nobel prize-winning father, Luis Alvarez, suggested this was evidence that firmly established that an asteroid or comet had impacted the earth and created the conditions that resulted in the demise of the dinosaurs and other fauna and flora that disappeared from the earth 65 million years ago.

With the subsequent finding and dating of the Chicxulub Crater, mentioned above, the culprit was identified in the opinion of the impact supporters.

But there are dissenting voices. Paleontologist Gerta Keller of Princeton University has carried out extensive fieldwork at Chicxulub together with a team of other distinguished scientists and claims that their investigations show that the age of the crater is 300,000 years older than the accepted extinction event and that there is no evidence whatsoever of extinction of life forms during that following 300,000 years. Keller is also a supporter of the volcanic outpourings, mentioned below, as a major contributing cause of the mass extinction.

But, in turn, many scientists disagree with Keller's analysis, contending that the 10 feet of material representing the 300,000 years without extinct life, that they claim is misleading her, was caused by tsunami activity that occurred as a result of the impact.

Whoever is right, the iridium anomaly points to an impact having occurred so if it wasn't Chicxulub what was it? There are several other major impact sites that are now known to be of the right age, so it is possible that there were a series of associated impact events, perhaps all being fragments of a much larger celestial body that may have broken apart through its own collision in space. To support this theory, there are craters in the Ukraine, in the North Sea, and a very large possible crater, yet to be absolutely confirmed as such, existing off the west coast of India. And there could have been other craters now erased by erosion or even by the gradually moving continental land masses as they react to the tectonic forces that slowly repositions portions of the surface of the earth's crust.

To add to the chain of coinciding events, it is possible that the crater off the coast of India, called the Shiva Crater, had a double effect, allied to the two main theories for the extinctions. In one case as an impact event similar to Chicxulub and in the second case as a major contributing cause worsening the already occurring volcanic events of the Deccan Traps of what is now India, mentioned below.

Recently, professor Sankar Chatterjee of the University of Texas, announced at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America in Portland, Oregon, research findings and a theory regarding the Shiva Crater, the world's largest known crater.

The new theory suggests that the source of the 25 mile wide Shiva Crater, a meteorite, came to earth 300,000 years after the Chicxulub crater was formed - is this also a confirmation of Gerta Keller's work?

Volcanic outpourings of the Deccan Traps of India

Another possible cause of the extinctions of the Great Dying are the million years of constant outpouring of volcanic lavas that is known to have occurred before and during the time of the extinctions. These are known as the Deccan Traps. Such extreme volcanic activity would have had dire climatic consequences world wide, sufficient to have caused the extinction of not only the dinosaurs but the multitude of species that are known to have become extinct at the same time as the dinosaurs. The loss of plants that would have also occurred due to the climate disruptions would have been disastrous for the many dinosaur species that were vegetarians.

There have been several similar mass extinctions over the earth's long history, and researchers say that most of those were accompanied by long periods of volcanic activity the same as that of the Deccan Traps of India. The volcanism that formed the Deccan Traps being considered as the cause of the mass extinctions has great support among those working in the field. In their opinion, their own extensive investigations provide convincing evidence in support of the volcanism theory and they believe that the mass extinction would have occurred because of them even if the impacts had not also happened during that time.

So opinions remain divided, while Walter Alvarez and others retain their views that Chicxulub is the culprit, other geologists believe otherwise, suggesting a hypothesis linking other evidence including climate change, significant volcanic eruptions or perhaps a combination of all of them that occurred 65 million years ago.

But questions remain to be answered. For instance, why did some species of creatures, such as crocodiles, frogs, and birds, survive while others did not?

Perhaps not all dinosaurs became extinct

It seems that some dinosaur species may have outlived the Great Dying. That is according to a May 1, 2009 report in The National Geographic News describing findings and conclusions of James Fasset, a scientist from the US Geological Survey in Sante Fe, New Mexico. Fasset's discoveries in the Western United States convince him that some dinosaur species survived beyond the mass extinction for as long as half a million years and the evidence to support that, he believes, is unequivocal.

However, while not ruling out the possibility, other paleontologists are not yet ready to accept Fasset's evidence and opinions.

Research continues and we shall await results with interest.

Live Theater Attracts Tradeshow Visitors

Live, interactive, experiential tradeshow presentations add a dynamic dimension attracting crowds to your company's products and services at your tradeshow booth. There's an added benefit of having your audience participate in and become advocates of your products during and after the tradeshow. It is, however, important to keep "on message" when you have a live theater presentation at your tradeshow exhibit. A highly- tuned message is the key to your success -- ensuring that you meet your company's marketing goals and objectives. Keep this in mind when you engage your next tradeshow presentation company.

According to Elaine Cohen, Founder/President of Live Marketing in Chicago, studies show that if live professional presentations at tradeshows focus on answering the marketing objectives of the company, the company is then better able to deliver on those objectives. The objective of the presentation may be to have tradeshow visitors become actively involved by taking a quiz or survey, learn about the product in depth from experts who can truly educate them, become committed to endorsing a charity in their industry, in addition to writing an order.

When the objective is to increase sales, a company would be wise to hire a crowd gatherer to get people to its tradeshow booth. Once there, attendees need to experience the product first hand. There also needs to be a follow up way to have your tradeshow guests experience the product once the tradeshow is over. A good idea to extend the marketing of your tradeshow exhibit is offering redeemable coupons to attendees they can use once the tradeshow is over.

A Case Study:

Cohen sites an example of a tradeshow live presentation campaign that produced highly successful results for Purina Pro Plan® at the National Dog Show in Philadelphia in 2005. The campaign was titled "The Difference is Real --Real Meat, Real Commitment, Real Experts." In fact, the tradeshow live presentation was so successful that it was repeated at the Philadelphia's National Dog Show in 2006, and also at the 2006 Chicago Dog Show and the Detroit Kennel Club Show.

The campaign began with identifying what key message Purina Pro Plan had for the national dog trade show goers and what the company hoped to achieve at the tradeshow exhibit. The message focus was that:

o Nutritionally, Pro Plan is an exceptional product. Among top breeders and show
dog owners, Pro Plan is the #1 pet food brand. However, many consumers are
unaware of this. In the specialty market, unaided awareness of the Pro Plan
brand is only 5% and Pro Plan market share is about 6%.

Therefore, the challenge of the Pro Plan Consumer Experiential Marketing Program was to generate awareness of, create a preference for, and drive sales of Pro Plan foods.

For starters, the tradeshow had the right audience-- approximately 18,000 dog-loving consumers attending the tradeshow. Most of these consumers either have a dog, attend the tradeshow to help decide what breed to purchase, or attend to find a breeder to purchase from. They are of all ages, genders, and ethnicities--and all of them are decision-makers or influencers of dog food purchases.

The overall goal was to re-focus the National Dog Show experience to integrate a Pro Plan experience. The way to do this was to immerse tradeshow visitors in the brand and to highlight the key messages -- The Difference is Real--Real Meat, Real Experts, and Real Commitment -- and to drive at least 400 attendees to participate in the show plan promotion at their tradeshow booth.

By using a theater backed by content-specific interactive exhibit areas, they were able to communicate the key messages:

o At the Real Meat area, a computerized Pro Plan Product Selector was used to find the
right Pro Plan product for each tradeshow visitor's own dog while communicating that the #1 ingredient of Pro Plan is Real Meat.

o At the Real Commitment area, visitors learned about the animal rescue programs Purina supports and were given the opportunity to help support the cause.

o In the Real Experts area, tradeshow guests spoke with breeders and/or a nutritionist to learn how to tell if their dog is the right weight and get answers to other canine nutrition questions.

They also had attendees complete a Pro Plan Show Plan quiz and survey
and, closing the loop, tradeshow booth staff gave away samples and coupons
to drive visitors to purchase now and in the future.

The solution was a totally integrated tradeshow exhibit marketing program that leveraged a live theatre and activities to attract and educate consumers.

To have a successful tradeshow presentation, you must push all the right buttons of the tradeshow exhibit attendee--no matter whether your presentation is at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, the Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the Hannover Exhibition Center in Germany or the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.

Remember, the next time you exhibit at a tradeshow, by adding a live, focused tradeshow professional presentation you will make your tradeshow exhibit more memorable and get a better than ever return on your tradeshow investment.
